Finding the Right Customer

Finding the Right Customer

You know, there’s a reason why there are 8 billion people on this planet we call Earth. Before you leave here, you may not have met more than 10% of these individuals.

Despite the potential of reaching millions or even billions of people as a business owner, not everyone within that number will necessarily become your customer. It’s a fact that most business owners need to accept.

There could be various reasons why someone may not choose a product or service. They may prefer a competitor’s offering, be unaware of the product, have no use for it, or simply not want it without any specific reason.

During a bus trip from Accra to Kumasi, I encountered an elderly gentleman who stood up and began to share the Gospel. His words piqued my interest, and he kindly blessed me with the word of God.

I could sense that not everyone was pleased with him based on their body language. Unexpectedly, he shifted the conversation to promote a healing balm and tonic that he claimed could cure various ailments such as stroke, high blood pressure, cancer, back pain, headaches, stomach ulcers, asthma, and even COVID-19. Talk about being current with the times!

Upon hearing that he had discovered the cure for all diseases, I was initially sceptical and thought to myself that it would be impossible to sell here. However, to my surprise, before he even finished his presentation, two women had already purchased it.

He managed to sell his products to around 10 people, and it was noticeable that they were packaged in his living room. This experience taught me that not everyone will be interested in purchasing your product for various reasons, so it’s important not to stress out when sales don’t meet your expectations.

It’s possible that you’re targeting the wrong audience. The elderly man was well aware of his audience and utilised specific diseases as keywords to draw in customers.

It’s worth noting that these diseases are mostly chronic and difficult to treat, meaning that those afflicted are likely seeking a solution and may be in a state of desperation.

It’s possible that someone on the bus knows someone who is affected by one of these illnesses. The old man used appropriate keywords to attract their intended audience and acquire customers. Don’t ask me if his products work because, apart from his numerous anonymous testimonies, there is no way to tell.

I was watching a master salesman at work.
